The Char Dham Yatra opens seasonally, typically late April to early May, and closes around Diwali in October/November when the shrines close for winter. Booking timing matters more than most people expect.
When to book
For the opening weeks (late April to mid-May), hotels and helicopter slots fill up fast, book at least 2-3 months in advance if you want this window, it has the most pleasant weather before the monsoon.
July and August bring monsoon rains and higher landslide risk on mountain roads, we generally recommend avoiding this window unless you have flexible dates.
September to mid-October is a strong second choice, cooler weather, thinner crowds, and still well before the winter closure.
